Memorial Day Vacay

We just got back from a fun little mini vacay to Savannah for Memorial Day weekend. It was a much needed break from our hectic schedules. We stayed at this great hotel called the Mansion at Forsyth Park. I fell in love with it's bohemian style, BEAUTIFUL pool and the pretty park that we overlooked from our room. While we were in Savannah, we went shopping at all the cute little shops on Bay Street, ate good food, including one of our favorite spots in Savannah, Churchill's Pub, went sight seeing through Savannah's historic homes and streets and just kicked back and had a good time. Cameron LOVES tractors and he ADORES his Mimi. Life doesn't get any better than this for a two year old. Thanks to Aunt Becky and Uncle Larry for letting Cam sit on their tractor today. They totally made his day. Look at that smile!

Father/Son Camp Out

John and Cameron went on their first Father/Son Camp Out tonight. I snapped this picture before they left. Doesn't Cam look SO cute with his little campers hat! His shirt says "Official Smores Taster". I spotted it last week and I had to buy it for him for his camping trip. He tried smores for the first time on the camp out and unfortunately didn't like them John said! How ironic. He enjoyed his hot dog and hobo dinner that I packed for them though. John says they had a great time.

Meanwhile back home, me and a few of my friends had a girls night while the boys were out camping. We had breakfast and cupcakes at Alison's house and played games and had a great time. Here are a few cute pics I took...

Last weekend, we celebrated Mother's Day and I must say, it was nice to be recognized and pampered for a day. I've been a mom for almost two years now and motherhood for me has been one of the hardest, most beautiful, humbling, sweetest, rewarding experiences of my life. I feel like I learn something new everyday as a mom. My non existent patience before I became a parent has grown SIGNIFICANTLY. And my heart is now overflowing with love for this new little person who I cannot imagine my life without! I love my sweet little man Cameron and I feel honored to be his mother and I love him so much!

Last month, Cam had lots of fun dying Easter eggs, getting two Easter baskets (one from his parents and one from his "Mimi"-my mom). He's also become a pro at Easter egg hunting because he went on 3 Easter egg hunts! Thanks to the help of his older cousin Jacob, his Easter egg hunting was a success. We enjoyed spending time with family and friends for Easter- my favorite holiday! Here are a few pics we took from Easter.

I just realized the other day that it's been over a month since my last post! We have been super busy lately with nothing more than life! It's hard to find an extra minute to write now that Cameron is 19 months old and as busy and active as ever! He definitely keeps us on our toes! But there's never a dull moment with Cameron in our lives. He is a funny boy and loves being the center of attention and impressing everyone with his new tricks! My cousin Kristin held her annual New Year's Eve party at her parents house and we had lots of fun this year. This was the first year we didn't stay til midnight to see the fireworks though! We had Cam-Cam with us this year so we cut out a little early so he could get in bed at a SOMEWHAT reasonable hour. We had fun eating pizza and yummy desserts and talking by the bon fire. Cam had a GREAT time playing with his Aunt La La (Sheila) and staying up two hours past bed time! Here are some pics we took welcoming in 2011.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. We sure did. On Christmas Eve, we went to our annual Christmas Eve party at my Aunt Sheila and Uncle Joe's house and had a GREAT time. We spent the night Christmas Eve with my mom and opened presents with her on Christmas morning and Cam had a BALL opening up all his new toys. Then we had Christmas dinner at our house with my in-laws. We had a great holiday! Here are some pics.

Cameron's Ear Surgery

Cameron had his surgery today where the ENT put tubes in his ears. The whole procedure took maybe a total of 5 minutes! The doctor said he did really well. He got sick from the anesthesia afterward though which was not fun for any of us but as soon as we got home and he slept for about an hour, he felt much better. He's had a good day and hardly any ear pain. I did give him some Tylenol a little earlier but he seems to be feeling good. Now if the poor guy could just get a break from teething! He's recently gotten a mouthful of teeth all at once and it's been BRUTAL!

I just put Cameron down for his nap and it just registered to me that it is Sept. 11 today. I remember very vividly Sept. 11, 2001. I was a sophomore in college (19 years old) and was VERY GOOD at writing in my journal almost every day. Here is what I wrote in my journal on Sept. 11, 2001 and later turned in as a Reflective Essay in my college writing class at BYU...

Sept. 11, 2001
Today was the most unbelievable day! It is one that I and the world will never forget. I woke up this morning at 8:00, and as usual, I went in the kitchen to get my cereal. As I was pouring my bowl of lucky charms, my roommate Nicole, burst through the front door in a frenzy, asking me if I had seen the news yet. I was startled by her abruptness so early in the morning and I quickly replied that I hadn't. She scrambled for the remote control and turned on the T.V. With my peaking curiosity, I left my bowl of cereal and joined her on the couch, to find out what was going on. I saw Dan Rather in New York City, showing coverage of the World Trade Center. One of the towers was completely destroyed, while the other was still standing, but was engulfed in a big, black cloud of smoke. I stared at the T.V. in disbelief, knowing that just two weeks before, I had seen these buildings in perfect form when my family and I went to New York City for vacation. I looked over at Nicole in complete shock.
Terrorists hijacked four planes, and flew two of them right into the twin towers, and one into the pentagon. The other one crashed in Pennsylvania. What makes this devastating situation even worse was that these planes were commercial air crafts and hundreds of innocent lives were sacrificed by these cowardly acts, on top of the thousands killed in the two massive, 110 story buildings. 50,000 people worked inside the World Trade Center.
Nicole and I stared entranced at the T.V. screen. Everything was so surreal. I was just waiting for them to say that it wasn't real, and that it was all a big joke. Unfortunately, they never did. Dan Rather informed us of all the details available. The second tower was still standing, but was very unstable and on fire. Inside this massive building were thousands of trapped workers flagging desperately outside the windows for help. We then saw hundreds of brave firefighters embarking into their doom without a moments hesitation. I was amazed at the courage and bravery of these firefighters, giving their lives at the possibility of saving the lives of these hopeful people. They were like lambs being brought to the slaughter.
A couple of minutes later, the world and I witnessed the second tower crumble to the ground, witnessing the most devastating terrorist attack of all time. There was nothing but silence; no words to express the flood of emotion every American heart was feeling at that moment. Even Dan Rather had no words to describe what he had just seen.
Feelings of disgust and total devastation took over my body. I felt numb. My blood ran ice cold and a clenching knot developed in my stomach. I couldn't speak for the lump in my throat was too overbearing. My heart ached. Tears streamed down my face as I watched in horror. I thought of all the poor, innocent people who were killed in this evil terrorist attack. I mourned for their families and the excruciating loss of their loved ones. Thousands upon thousands killed. All I could ask was why?
A Saudi terrorist names Bin Ladin was at the top of the suspect list. He had been threatening the United States for a long time, and finally he made his attack. My sorrow quickly turned to outrage. How could someone be so evil and have such little regard for how precious life is? I wanted justice. I wanted him to pay, and to suffer like the thousands of lives that he shattered. I know that he will pay. Never in American history have we been more united. We have given new meaning to the land of the free and the home of the brave. Our nation is strong, perhaps the strongest in the world. We are definitely not going to take this lying down. I feel that all Bin Ladin has done is awaken a sleeping giant.
For most of the day, I watched the news with my roommates. I will never forget this day, and it will definitely go down in history. It is the largest, most devastating terrorist attack the world has ever seen.

Let's remember today all the hero's that gave their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. Never forget!

Saturday night we went to a Suns baseball game with the entire Thomas clan and John's friend Jeff whose in town visiting. We ate hot dogs, got some really cute pics, found our seats right before the game started, then the sky opened up and it started POURING down rain. Sadly the game was canceled but we still had fun and will go back again another time when rain is not in the forecast.

I just started a new blog called Virtueositee that will be all about one of my true passions in life- CLOTHES! It will be a site where I post all my favorite MODEST, classy and fabulous looks for anyone whose interested!
What inspired me to do this? I'm not really sure! One day last week, I just came up with the idea. I know modest clothes that don't look FRUMPY are sometimes hard to find and since one of my favorite things to do is SHOP, I've been lucky to have found some great places where you can find it all. We went to another wedding last weekend. My friend Katie who I used to work with got married in St. Augustine and it was a beautiful day and a beautiful event! Family Fun in Cali

While we were in California, we were able to spend time with John's aunt, uncle and cousins. His Aunt Kath and Uncle Jim are so sweet! We stayed at their lovely home for a few nights while we were there. We also got to see John's cousins who are all married now with families. We had the best time with them! Cameron's first airplane ride

As you all know, we just got back from our trip to California. And I was more than a little anxious taking my 8 month old son on an airplane for SUCH A LONG TRIP. I tried to think of every possible way to make it an enjoyable and painless experience for all. I packed ear plugs for Cameron, new toys, his favorite snacks, a change of clothes, a baby Bjorn (the Infantino version) for walking around the airport, you name it, I packed it. All in all, the plane ride went well. I was a little thrown though during our first flight out there when I went to put the ear plugs in his ears and he threw a fit! He wanted nothing to do with those things! So his ears did pop a little on our first flight- which scared him. But we figured out that as long as he is drinking his bottle or nibbling on a little snack it would help with his ears. After that initial rough start, he was as good as gold. He did great on all the flights! We had a layover in Houston on our way to and from L.A. Each flight was about 2.5 hours. And he was good enough to wait until we got to L.A. to have a diaper blow out, making the change of clothes I brought come in handy!

On a quick side note, when John bought this carrier and I saw the box it came in, I was like oh, what a cute baby on the cover of the box. He kinda looks like Cameron (except for the hair of coarse) then I looked up at his mommy and I was like whoa! She looks just like ME! Does anyone else think this girl looks like me? Wierd!

Cameron felt like such a big boy when he got his own seat on our connecting flight from Houston to LA. There was no one sitting next to us on that flight so he got his own. Here he is seat belt fastened and all.

Weekend Getaway

This past week was CRAZY and John and I both agreed we needed to get away for the weekend. So we packed up Cameron and headed for Savannah. We had a lot of fun! We stayed at a great hotel, ate good food and tried to relax (as much as you can with an 8 month old anyways- it's kinda impossible!) John got us a FAB deal on the Hiatt in Downtown Savannah through Hotwire. It was beautiful! And we took Cameron on a little trolley tour of Downtown which he LOVED. He would put his little hand on the side rail of the trolly and stick his head out to look at all the sites around us. Whenever I took his hand off the rail (because who knows what kind of germs are all over it) he would put it right back! He thinks he's big stuff. We had a great time walking along River Street shopping for souvenirs for Cameron. We got him an adorable little shirt with a Pirate on it that says "Pint Size Pirate". It was ADORABLE!
Anyway, here are some pics we took on our trip. Next week we are headed out to California for Emily's wedding! We are really excited! Any last advice for us on how to ensure Cameron will have a good trip on the plane and a good vacation away from home for a week?

1. What are some things you do everyday? Eat, sleep, snuggle with my baby boy, work, Young Womens planning (most days- maybe not every day)and try not to get in too much trouble.

2. What would be your dream vacation? A trip to the Greek Isles! Or better yet, a Mediterranean Cruise that stops in the Greek Isles and other cool surrounding places. I also would LOVE to go to Egypt! Cairo holds a special place in my heart (wink wink Em)

3. What is your favorite meal to cook? My mom's spaghetti recipe and cheese Texas toast. It's so delicious and I never get tired of it!

4. What should you be doing more of? Cleaning my house, cooking, exercising, eating more vegetables and being on time.

5. Any OCD habits you can't kick? Looking in mirrors and shiny surfaces to check my hair, face, etc.

6. Have any unfinished projects? My life in one big unfinished project! It seems like there's never enough time in the day to get everything done. I'll leave it at that.

7. What are your hobbies and interests? Shopping, traveling (both of which I haven't done much of at all this year!), movies and blogging

I like so many movies and actors but some of my recent favs are: Nine, The Proposal and Marley & Me. Another great oldie that I've recently seen is Somewhere in Time (with Christopher Reeves and Jane Seymour) It's so good! And time travel totally fascinates me! Has anyone else seen this movie? It's kinda obscure. Actors I like: Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, and Mel Gibson. Actresses: Sandra Bullock, Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep

I found my first gray hair today!

As I was fixing my hair this morning and applying my finishing touches of hairspray and shine oil- I SAW IT- a little gray (almost white) hair sticking up amid the endless flow of two inch dark roots that are long overdue for their highlights. In my bewilderment, I thought to myself- is this really happening now? At 27 years old! When did I get so old that I'm going gray now? How depressing! Who else has gray hairs and when did they start?

What's worse is when I took the pictures below to document this post with proof, I found even more gray hairs! I never see the very top of my head! I didn't even know they were there! No one said ANYTHING to me! How long have these been there? Gosh I hope some of that is the flash!

Our little baby has so many adorable clothes yet his favorite outfit is his birthday suit! He LOVES hanging around the house in just his diaper, especially after I give him a bath. Today we had family pictures taken since it's our first Christmas with Cameron and let me tell you, that was an experience! I was pretty proud of myself that I was able to get Cameron and myself ready in time for our appointment. John met us during his lunch break at the studio. We are not unlike millions of other people rushing at the last minute to get their pictures taken and their Christmas cards sent off. I arrived at our appointment on time only to find that EVERY single parking spot in the parking lot was taken. I had to park about a mile away. And did I mention is was 80 degrees today! That's right! 80 degrees in December! Unbelievable! So I parked, grabbed Cameron and his car seat (it's gotta weigh close to 25lbs by now!), I put his diaper bag filled with about 7 changes of clothes on one arm, my purse on the other, then proceeded on my mile hike. By the time we got there I was 10 minutes late and sweating! Lovely right before you take a picture huh! I seriously struggle! This whole picture taking thing with kids is no easy task. I think it will be close to impossible for me to take a good picture of myself until he is able to get himself ready and is able to walk on his own and carry his own stuff. Anyway, thought I'd post some of the pictures we bought...

I have to say, one of my FAVORITE things about being a mom is watching Cameron experience his "firsts". Like his first taste of baby food, his first time feeling the sand between his toes at the beach or his first dip in the ocean (his feet anyways!). Today, he beheld his first Christmas tree. There is something so magical about seeing Christmas through your child's eyes. I'm sure it will just get better and better as the years go by but I am really enjoying these precious little moments!

Black Friday Trip to Savannah

This year, instead of shopping on Black Friday, we decided to take a little mini trip to Savannah with John's friend Jeff who was visiting. This was Cameron's first trip away from home and he did great! He was very good and liked being out and about in Savannah. Here are a few highlights from our trip...

What's funnier than a bunch of grown women getting together to watch Twilight in their pajamas? That's the question of the day!

So we don't care if we are acting like a bunch of teeny boppers, we LOVE Twilight and can't wait for New Moon to come out! Who's going to go see it at midnight on Thursday night? I'm still undecided on that one. I will probably fall asleep! I can't stay up that late anymore! Cam wakes me up at 4-5 am every morning!

Young Women in Excellence (YWIE) is a church activity we have every year for the teenage girls. It's an opportunity for the girls to showcase their talents, skills and value projects they have been working on for the year. Tonight was our program and our theme was:
Being a Lighthouse in the Night

Matt 5:16.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

The girls did a special skit centered around our Lighthouse theme, they sang a beautiful song entitled "Hold Our Torches High" from their Lightkeepers CD that I gave them earlier this year at New Beginnings and they showcased their many many talents to their parents and leaders who attended. At the end of the night, I gave them each a 2010 calendar that featured photographs of beautiful lighthouses from across the world. This was to remind them of the beautiful lighthouses that they are to the world and to let their light shine.

It was a great night and I am proud of the girls for all their hard work! Here are some pictures I took of the night...

Cameron LOVES going on walks around our neighborhood and surounding neighborhoods. The weather has been SO NICE lately. It's been in the high 60's/ low 70's so Cam and I have been taking walks every afternoon. He loves looking around and feeling the cool breeze. He usually kicks back for a little nap along the way.

It's been a busy couple of weeks! We just held our annual Young Women's Potato Bar fundraiser and dessert auction to raise money for girls camp for next year. After much preparation, the night went really well and I'm proud of the girls for all their hard work. We raised a little over $800 for their girls camp fund for next year! Not too shabby at all! It's hard to believe it was 4 years ago that John and I were married. The time has really flown by but when I think of all that we have been through in these past 4 years, it seems like we've been married more like 10! One thing is for sure, these have been the happiest 4 years of my life! And now that we have our little Cameron, our lives have been filled with so much more joy!
We celebrated our special day by going out to dinner and a movie. This is our favorite thing to do these days! We saw Love Happens. It was SO GOOD! A truly touching movie. Don't forget your tissues for this one!

Today we took Cameron for his first trip to St. Augustine. The weather was BEAUTIFUL, the sun was shining and he had a GRAND TIME! We took him to walk along St. George Street and over by the water. He slept a good portion of the time but I could tell he enjoyed himself when he was awake! Here are a few pictures of our day. As you can see, our little man is loosing quite a bit of his hair :( I think he will be all the way bald soon! Who would have thought with ALL that hair that he had when he was born!

Bath Time

Cameron just ADORES his bath! Especially bubble baths! Every day he lights up when he gets to splash around in the warm, bubbly water. When he's all clean and his hair is washed, he loves for me to take him out of his little bather chair and put him directly in the bath water. I'll pull him around back and forth in the water for a few minutes and he just LOVES it. He is the CUTEST!
Cam is now 8 weeks old and he is all smiles and even the occasional giggle! He LOVES music! He and I love to dance around his nursery to his new Jewel tunes. He also loves story time. Some of his favorite books are Love You Forever, The Little Engine That Could, and Abby Kadabby.
John and I have been trying to get some video of him giggling and "talking" as my mom calls it. He will make the cutest little noises sometimes when you talk to him. It's almost like he's trying to talk back to you! I will eventually get a good recording of it on my camera and I will post it so you can hear how cute it is! I only have a few minutes so this will be short and sweet. Cameron just fell asleep so I figure I have a good 15 minutes to do a post! The boy hasn't closed his eyes all day! But he did sleep through the night last night! (midnight to 6:30 a.m.) HOORAY! We'll see if he does it again tonight. He's slept 5 hours at a time on some nights but he's been inconsistent so I can't really say he's "sleeping through the night" yet.

I have always been a big fan of Jewel and she recently came out with a new Lullaby CD. I bought it the other day and Cam LOVES it! I play this CD for him at bed time. Here is the end result...

If you have little ones (which most of you do!) I highly recommend picking this one up! I even enjoy listening to it myself! So even if you don't have kids, it's great soothing music for all! Two enthusiastic thumbs up.

First week back at work

This past week was my first week back at work. All in all, it went well. It was good to see everyone at the office again and it was nice to get out of the house and stimulate my mind in different ways but it sure was hard being away from Cam! On my first day back, my mom watched him. She and Cam met me for lunch so that made the day a lot easier. My second day, Amyee kept Cam. At around 3 pm I was REALLY MISSING HIM so much! That had been the longest I've ever been away from him at one time. Amyee and I were texting throughout the day and she was telling me how good he was being and how he just loved to watch Dayton, Amyee's son. It made me feel better to know he was having a good time. Then Amyee took the CUTEST pictures of Cam and emailed them to me at work! It was so good to see his cute little face and it helped me get through the rest of the day! (See below for the pics- they are so cute!) My third and last day at work this week actually fell on my mom's birthday so I again got to meet her for lunch and she brought Cam so I could be with him for a little while in the middle of the day. I'd be lying if I said it wasn't hard to leave him and go back to work but he's definitely adjusted well and I think he is going to like his little weekly routine. He has all kinds of new toys and things to play with at my mom's house and he has a new little buddy- Dayton at Amyee's! And I will be home with him on Tuesdays and Fridays. Then on the weekends of coarse. Life is good for that little man. Here are a few pics from this week...

Cameron's day at the office

I had to go into the office today for a brief meeting with my boss and so I decided to bring Cam along to meet all my co workers. He was a big hit with everyone! Especially the ladies! They all wanted to hold him! The men I work with thought he was cute but showed no interest whatsoever in holding him! It's so funny to observe the differences between men and women and how they act around babies. The men acted like he would break if they held him or something.

Cam is now 6 weeks old and I will be going back to work part time on Monday. I can't believe how fast the time has gone by! I'm going to work 3 ten hour days a week. I'm very lucky because my mom is able to watch Cam for 2 out of the 3 days and my friend Amyee is going to keep him the third day. I'm glad that I don't have to put him in day care! That would have been very hard! I feel good knowing he is with people I know and trust. I can rest assured that he will be well taken care of! I know I will miss him though! Cabin Fever

After a month or so of hardly EVER leaving the house, cabin fever set in! I needed to get out of the house desperately! John and I started having a weekly date night thanks to my mother in law Marlene who watched Cameron for us and of coarse my mom too. Marlene, John's mom came down from Tennessee and stayed with us for about 3 weeks after Cam was born to help me out. She cleaned my house, cooked my meals, watched Cameron, basically did everything while I recovered! She was so great! Before Marlene left to go back to Tennessee, she, my mom and I went for a girls night out to one of my favorite restaurants Cheesecake Factory and we got pedicures! It was a great girls night out! I had another girls night out with my friends from book club. Since 2 of our book clubbers had babies last month (myself included!) We didn't get around to reading a book that month! We decided to go out to dinner instead!

My dear friends April and Julie moved away the next week. Their husbands have completed Orthodoctic school here and now they are moving on to begin their careers. I'm going to miss you girls so much! Keep in touch and keep blogging!

Sleepy

The title of this post says it all! I have now gone 3 weeks without a decent nights sleep and if you ask me how I'm doing, I will have to go with SLEEPY, TIRED, maybe even EXHAUSTED! Here's a question for you mom's out there... Do you ever get used to being up at all hours of the night every night? I'm hoping and praying that Cam will be able to sleep through the night (at least 5 consecutive hours) by week 8. We'll see if that happens! I've got a few tricks up my sleeve thanks to my good pal Amber! Luckily Cam is a pretty good sleeper as it is. He really only wakes up in the middle of the night to be fed. He doesn't have colic or acid reflux or anything. He's just a healthy growing boy that likes to eat A LOT!
