Baby Thomas

Here's another picture of the baby that we got at our last appointment. We are SO EXCITED about our little peanut! In about two weeks, we should be able to find out if it's a boy or a girl and we CAN'T WAIT! Sometimes I feel so strongly that it's a girl (like with the experience at church in Tenn.- see post below) But then sometimes I really want a boy! And John is secretly hoping for a boy too. Either way, we will be thrilled!

These days, I've been feeling great. Still not sick :) And I get really touched whenever I hear songs like the one that's playing now (With Arms Wide Open- Creed). Every time I see a little baby, I can't help but smile and think, in about 6 months, we are going to have a little darling of our own! I can't wait to start decorating his or her nursery and start shopping for their new little wardrobe!

So what does everyone think? Boy or girl? I wanted to set up a little voting survey but I couldn't figure out how to do that! So you can just leave a comment with your prediction. Boy or girl?
In a few weeks, we'll let you know if you were right!

Christmas Fun

We spent Christmas in Knoxville Tennessee this year with John's parents, his sister Emily and his brother Robert. Here are a few pics of our holiday fun...

Christmas morning

Pay no mind to my lack of make up!

John received his beloved Star Trek DVD Collection. He's the biggest trekkie nerd you'll ever meet!

John's dad and sister Emily

Marlene, John's mom

Marlene and Robert, John's brother

Marlene and her beautiful Christmas table setting

The girls at the Apple Cake Tea Room in Knoxville

John and I at the movies.

We saw Marley & Me. It was SO GOOD! I cried like a baby but I would TOTALLY see it again. This is Jennifer Anniston's and Owen Wilson's BEST MOVIE!

We also saw Valkyrie. It was epic. VERY GOOD! It was sold out at every showing!

Em and me at church

Something very neat happened to us while we were in Sacrament meeting in John's parent's ward. We were sitting in our pew as the Sacrament was being passed and John leaned over, touched my belly and asked how the baby was doing. Right after he said that, a little girl that was sitting behind us (who was about two years old) said "Ava". I turned around and she looked right at me and said "Ava" again.
Many of you know that if John and I have a little girl, we are planning on naming her Ava. I leaned over and asked John's sister if this little girls name was Ava and it wasn't, her name is Baily. No one in her family's name is Ava. I like to think that she felt little Ava's spirit there with us that day and of coarse that would mean that we are having a girl! We'll find out for sure in a couple of weeks. I just thought that was the coolest experience, it gave me chills. I think that little girl must have been very close to the spirit!

Anyways, we had a wonderful Christmas. More posts on baby will come soon.

Surprise!

This is our baby at 11 weeks! That's right- WE"RE HAVING A BABY! I'm 12 weeks (3 months) along and we are so excited!!! The baby is due July 4th! You all can celebrate our baby's birth with fireworks!

We find out at my next appointment if it's a boy or a girl- I'll be sure to let you all know when we find out!

I've had a pretty great pregnancy so far! I have not been sick hardly AT ALL! I've never been as tired as I have been these last 12 weeks but I will take that over morning sickness any day!

Here's a picture of my belly at 12 weeks.

You can't hardly tell a huge difference just yet but I sure can! I can't button any of my pants and I have discovered this amazing invention called Bella Bands. Pictured below

You can wear your pants unbuttoned and no one will ever know because the Bella Band goes over the top of your pants at the waist! They're great because I'm not quite ready to go into maternity clothes just yet but my pants sure are getting tight at the waist!

Anyway, more posts on baby will follow. Since this in our first, I'll probably bore you with a ton of details that you may or may not care about! Just indulge me!

Lindsay gets called as Young Women's President!

That's the headline of the week! I was just sustained today as Young Women's President at church and I still CAN NOT believe it! I came into Young Women's about 5 months ago as a Laurel Advisor and now I'm President! I'm not going to lie to you, at first I was STUNNED and a little overwhelmed as I am the YOUNGEST and the NEWEST leader in there! Sometimes I don't feel old enough (or mature enough!) to be a President to these girls but I am going to just trust in Bishop Smith's inspiration on this one! And as everything has had a chance to sink in this week, I am actually really excited about it and I think we will have a lot of fun! I have a great board to help me too so that will be great!

So all you Young Women's Presidents (or former Presidents) please feel free to send any advice my way! My first big event that I will be planning is New Beginnings in February. I'm looking for great New Beginnings program ideas and words of wisdom from those who know because the last time I was at a New Beginnings, I was 17 years old! I need all the help I can get!

This picture is from a YW lesson that all the advisors taught one Sunday a few months back on Temple Marriage. I thought I'd throw it in here for effect!

2008 Christmas Elegant Dinner

Every year, all the women at my church put on a Christmas Elegant Dinner where we bring out all our fine china and table centerpieces, set up tables in our cultural hall and have a FABULOUS dinner and Christmas program.
The Elegant dinner was this past Thursday night and of coarse I took pictures! I did a new theme at my table this year and I really liked how it turned out. Take a look...

Here's my table

The bulbs in the clear vases came from my Christmas tree! My mom helped me make the centerpiece. We got the florals and the clear marbles from Garden Ridge for $10! The tall lime green candles came from Home Goods. One of my FAVORITE stores!

Our wedding china

A TON of people came this year!

My mom came. She LOVED the way my table turned out!

John came and was a server in the buffet line (along with several other men!) Unfortunately he broke one of our glasses when he was helping me pack things up at the end of the night! He's like a bull in a china shop! :)

The Elegant dinner was so fun this year! John also gave me my Christmas present early this year by taking me to the Nutcracker (He HATES the Ballet- but I LOVE IT) and one of my favorite restaurants- Stonewood Grill. It was so much fun! I just love the Nutcracker! John was great to suffer through it with me. Unfortunately, he wouldn't let me take any pictures of him/ us that night, so this is the best that I could do!

They don't let you take any pictures at the performance but here are some professionally done ones that I found online of the Nutcracker...

It was beautiful! Go see it!

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope everyone had a wonderful time yesterday celebrating with family and friends and remembering all that you have to be thankful for! I know I am so thankful for my family, my friends, I'm thankful we have a home and plenty of food to eat (we had way too much food yesterday!), And I'm especially thankful for my wonderful Heavenly Father who has blessed our family in so many ways. As I think of all the that I have to be thankful for, I am also reminded that there are those out there that are a lot less fortunate than us. I truly believe Heavenly Father works many of his miracles for his suffering children through us and our willingness to serve others. So I'd like to take this opportunity to share with you all a way that you can help someone less fortunate this holiday season. My friend Emily has been working hard these past few weeks to raise funds to help this family in need. Here is her story...

Kara married her husband Hutch Henrie less than a year ago (about 7
months). They were so in love and happy. Recently, the newly weds were
involved in a tragic accident. I believe Kara was the driver and she
swerved to miss something in the road, but was unable to keep control of
the car. Her husband was thrown from the car and died shortly after. If
this story isn't heartbreaking enough there is more; Kara was a couple
months pregnant when she lost her husband. Not only that, but they did
not have life insurance because his company didn't offer it, and she
will shortly, if she hasn't already, lose the health care benefits her
husband had through his work. The financial burden on top of the
emotional and spiritual heartache is too much for someone to bare on her
own. There has been an outpouring of love for Kara and her family, but I
feel like we can do a lot more. She has to deal with so much more than I
can imagine. Kara's story has really struck me to the point that I
cannot lie down to go to sleep without thinking about her and what she
is going through right at that moment. I do not know Kara personally, I
know her sister-in-law a bit (she is in my ward) but I have such a
strong feeling that I need to help her. I wanted to do all I could
anonymously, but I feel I could do a lot more by asking for YOUR help.
The Henrie family has lost 3 members of their family in less than a
decade: Their sister at age 21 to a car accident, their mother within
the past year or so to breast cancer and now their brother to another
tragic accident. I know that Heavenly Father must feel like this family
is strong enough to endure the pain and struggle that they have, but I
feel like we can help ease the basic needs of Kara's and help her to
focus on the things she needs to in order to get through this hard time.
I think about the baby that is such a gift from our Heavenly Father, but
which might feel like such a burden and she must have so many mixed
emotions about her situation. It was supposed to be such a happy time
for her and her husband to be starting a family together, and I feel
like she can find peace eventually, but with the stress and burdens she
has I feel like she needs our help. I know these are tough economic
times for a lot of people, but I also know the blessing of giving
yourself to a deserving effort.
Here is how you can help:
There are 2 separate trust funds set up at Zion's Bank and America
First, email Emily at givebig33@gmail.com if you are interested in donating to one of these and I will send you all the information you need. I am also taking cash or
check donations in her name, Kara Henrie, as well as cards, gifts, etc.
If you know companies or businesses that would like to help out please
let me know and I will do all I can to support them in helping Kara.
Please remember her this Holiday Season and find someway to help be a
part of renewing hope in this devastating situation. For more
information or if you have any questions at all please email Emily at
givebig33@gmail.com. I would really love to do all we can the quickest
that we can, so do not delay! Thank you, and Happy Holidays!

I know that if you are like us, extra money is scarce and these are hard economic times for everyone but I also know that you will be so blessed if you give, even just a few dollars, to help someone in need. And if your financial situation makes this impossible, even just a letter of encouragement and hope would help this girl so much at this devastating time.

I love you all and I hope you are enjoying the holiday season so far. More posts are coming soon. Sorry I've been such a blog slacker lately!

Book Review: The Thirteenth Tale

I just finished reading our book club book for the month of November,The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield (Click here to learn about the book) and I LOVED IT SO MUCH that I decided to dedicate a blog post/ book review about it. I chose this book for this month after hearing how great it was from my friend and fellow book clubber, Patti. (Thanks Patti!) And I am glad that I did! It was so good, I couldn't put it down and I finished all 416 pages in a week! I have to be the slowest reader EVER and rarely am I immediately grabbed by a book like I was this one. I'm a little ADD at times and if a book doesn't grab my interest within the first 30 pages or so, I tune out!
This book is one of the few books that I can actually say grabbed my attention almost immediately and the ending DEFINITELY DOES NOT DISAPPOINT! It's an Eerie, fascinating tale full of mystery and intrigue. That's all I will say!
It's not too late to join in our book club fun and start reading the book now. Book Club is at my house on Nov 20. You all need to go check The Thirteenth Tale out TODAY! And by "you all" I mean Amber Kirk- join in our book club this month! You can borrow my book now that I'm done! And anyone else whose interested,(Jessica, Amyee, Paula, Rebecca) you know you want to! Come to book club and let's talk about his intriguing tale!

Have any of you already read this book? What did you think?

Biker Babes!

Yes, those are black leather pants I'm wearing, black finger nail polish on my nails and a FAKE Harley Davidson tattoo on my arm! Yes, John is wearing an orange bandanna on his head and has flames on his t-shirt! Friday Night was our Fall Festival at our church and last year, we got SHOWED UP by everyone because they all dressed up and we didn't! This year, John and I were biker babes! Don't we look tough! My thinking behind choosing these costumes was this... What would people LEAST EXPECT to see us dress up as? And this was what came to mind! Much different from our usual "conservative" style of dress! I thought you'd get a kick out of the pictures.
And the bike belongs to our friends Eric and Amy! Isn't it SWEET! It matched my red earrings PERFECTLY!!!
